The FCRA gives consumers rights regarding the accuracy and handling of their credit information. We help you understand where your situation may fit, and where it may not.

When a consumer disputes information, consumer reporting agencies must conduct a reasonable reinvestigation of qualifying disputes and correct or delete inaccurate information.

15 U.S.C. § 1681s-2(b)

Furnisher duties after notice

After a consumer reporting agency notifies a furnisher of a dispute, the furnisher has duties to investigate, review, and report results.

15 U.S.C. §§ 1681n & 1681o

Potential civil liability

Willful or negligent noncompliance may give rise to civil liability, subject to the applicable legal requirements and procedural prerequisites.

The precise provisions applicable to any matter must be independently assessed by counsel. A legal claim requires facts supporting the applicable statutory elements and procedural prerequisites. Not every reporting disagreement is an FCRA violation.
